Industry representatives have come together to arrange a conference ‘Healthy Cattle, Healthy Profits’ looking at ways to improve profitability. The last three years have seen an increase in fallen stock numbers in Northern Ireland, with over 60,000 cattle expected to die on farms this year.xa0 This represents a loss of £40-50 million/year to the beef industry.
The conference organised by the Ulster Farmers’ Union, CAFRE, AFBI, LMCNI, and NBA will have a number of speakers from across the industry. Speakers will look at what post mortem results are showing and how health planning can reduce those losses. There will be representatives discussing farm building designs to actively improve animal health. Delegates will also hear from specialist farmers from across the UK on the unique systems and processes in place on their own farms. Finally, Conall Donnelly of NIMEA will look at the current thinking on the implications of Brexit for Northern Ireland beef industry. This will be a beneficial conference for anyone involved in the beef industry.
