Clarke Calls For App For Newcastle Shore Area

Cllr Willie Clarke is calling for the development of an app to promote the built and environmental heritage around the shore and harbour area of Newcastle.

Mournes Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has called for interpretation signage to be installed on the Black Rock garden at the Harbour area in Newcastle providing information in relation to the places of interest in the area, including thexa0two medieval fish traps.

Cllr Clarke said: “This would include the Rockpool Outdoor swimming pool and World War II watchtower. Interpretation panels are a useful way toxa0educate and inform visitors about the environment around them and can cover both natural history and archaeological themes.”

“I will also be requesting Council officers to consider providing xa0a digital app which will distribute a narrative account ofxa0the heritage of the area which includes should include Newcastle Harbour and the Watch House,the Granite Trail, Annesley Hall, 1843 Newcastle Fishing disaster with Widows Row, the site of Donard Lodge, the SS Great Britain anchor and the Bloody Bridge. This area has a lot of great history and we need to utilise it more in delivering our tourism product for the area.”
