This first team won their first game of the season last Saturday and in doing so completed a winning day for all teams who played on Saturday. Downpatrick beat Ards Rangers at home by a score line of 3 – 1, thanks to a brace by Jarlath Brannigan and Andrew McCoubrey tap in. This Saturday they make the trip to play East Belfast, and this game kicks off at 2.00pm writes Tony McShane.
The under 19’s played Ashton Gate at Grove Playing Fields. They got off to a flyer when Eoin Rooney scored from a corner which he won after only two minutes. This set the tone for the game, with Drew Barnes dropping into a new role in midfield they also had a lot more creativity. It was Barnes who played an inch perfect pass for Rooney as he drove down the wing and crossed for Tony Carson to double Downpatrick’s lead. With Ryan Cassidy and Con Farrell marshalling the Downpatrick defence it gave their midfielders the confidence to play their attacking brand of football and the should’ve added to their goal tally before the break with chances falling to Corey McCoubrey, Rooney and Barnes. After the break Rooney won his side a penalty which he converted to Increase the Downpatrick lead. 3-0 After making a few changes Downpatrick conceded late on. This Saturday they have a free weekend.
The under 17’s played Hollywood Youth at Hollywood, and won the game 4 – 2, Downpatrick’s goals were scored by Colin Jones 2, Ethan Breen and Ethan Artt. This Saturday they play St James’ Swifts B Team at the Grove Playing Fields, the match kicks off at 11.00am.
The under 15’s made it six games out of six on Saturday morning when they comfortably beat Celtic Bhoys, the goals coming from Ruairi Cunliffe (4), Finn Trainor, Nathan McAllister, Lewis Green, Nathan McGarry and Peter Carberry. This week they play Castlewellan Town on Saturday morning in Dunleath, this match kicks off at 10.50am.
The under 13’s continued their winning run on Saturday morning they play Lisburn Rovers at Fullerton Park, winning 4 – 1, the goal scorers were Jake Harding double, Luke Cunningham and Mark Leahy. This Saturday they play Lisburn Ladies at Fullerton Park, this match kicks off at 11.15am.
The under 12’s (2007’s) beat Banbridge Lions on Saturday six nil, the goals scored by Ben Shaw double, Ethan Lynnott, Charlie McCamley, Seany Duggan and Shea Holland. The 2007’s age group are in cup action on Saturday when they play Hillsborough Juniors in the quarter-final at the Lisburn Leisureplex with a 12.00pm kick off.
The 2008 age group played St Mary’s at the Lisburn Leisureplex last Saturday morning and ran out 4 – 1 winners with goals from Matthew McDowell, Isaac McAlinden, Leo Madine and Leo Noble. This weekend they play Hillsborough 09’s in the Quarter Final of the shield at Belvior BB 3G Pitch and it kicks off at 11.00am.
Our Mini Soccer training continues on Monday night from 6.00pm – 7.00pm at the Red High 3G Pitch (Please note earlier time). This training is for children born in the following years 2009, 2010 & 2011. Players are asked to dress for the weather, wear football boots and shin guards. All old and new players are welcome.
