Police Inquiry After Body On Newcastle Beach

A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body on a beach in Newcastle is ongoing. The body was found by a member of the public shortly before 5am on Thursday 11xa0October.

Detective Sergeant Bell said: “We have carried out a number of enquiries at the scene and in the general Newcastle area today and at this stage we do not believe the death of the man to be suspicious.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to identify the deceased and I am appealing for assistance from the public. He is a white male, aged between 50-70, bald on top with short grey hair to the sides, of medium build and was found wearing a white Ballybunion Golf Club polo shirt.

If anyone can help us to identify this gentleman, or has information that could help with our enquiries, please contact officers in Ardmore police station in Newry on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 149 11/10/18.”

The shore area of Newcastle has been buffeted with winds and stormy seas for a few days.

 

SDLP Comment Of Discovery Of Body On Newcastle Beach.

SDLP MLA Colin McGrath has appealed for information after a body was discovered on a beach in Newcastle Co. Down.

The MLA for South Down said: “My sympathies go out to the family of the individual, as well as the locals who found the body this morning. The local community are in shock this morning, but I have no doubt they will rally together to support one another at this time.

“I would encourage anyone who may have information to contact the PSNI.”

xa0And Councillor Laura Devlin said: “Newcastle is in total shock this morning following news that a body has been found on the beach. The community of Newcastle is close knit and there is a very sombre feeling around the whole town.xa0 My thoughts and prayers are with the family who will receive such devastating news of the loss of a loved one.”
