Carillion Collapse Needs Clarity Says Armstrong

Alliance Strangford MLA Kellie Armstrong has called for clarity after the construction firm Carillion announced it was going to be liquidated.

The company, which employs up to 500 people in Northern Ireland, has three major contracts with the Housing Executive for home maintenance and gas installation in North Down, Strangford, and South and East Belfast.

Strangford MLA Kellie Armstrong has called for clarification about the impacts of the Carillion collapse in Northern Ireland.

Kellie Armstrong said: “My party colleague Naomi Long and others have today sought clarification from the Housing Executive regarding the disruption to residents. We have been informed by a number of residents they have been advised by the organisation maintenance works are now not going to proceed until this issue is resolved.

“The Housing Executive have now stated there may be some disruption to routine services in forthcoming days. We need urgent clarification from the Housing Executive as to exactly what works will continue and which will not, and what residents can do in the meantime.

“The absence of a Minister and a working Executive puts barriers in place to deal with emergency issues such as this. This is why we need locally accountable Ministers who can understand the impact the potential loss of 500 jobs could have, especially to the Construction Industry.”
