Shirley Lennon, Coordinator of Fountain Foodbank in Downpatrick, has once again appealed to local shops and people for donations of food and in cash to support their welfare programme for the needy in the Downpatrick area.
She said: “We are increasingly getting busier and every item we get is a bonus. We have trollies in various shops locally and people are very generous. We thank everyone who has donated so far. Without this help it would almost be impossible to support some of our clients who are referred to us mostly from Social Services and other agencies.
“We were delighted today to receive a cheque from the East Down Men’s Shed in Downpatrick. They have up-cycled xa0furniture and they have donated the proceeds of their sales to us with a £200 cheque which we are very grateful for.
“Whilst we are keen to take donations of food and drinks, we also accept cash, and if anyone wishes to fundraise for us they are very welcome. With cash, we can buy items to fill up the gaps in our store of foodstuffs and household items.
“We have an excellent team of volunteers from across the community who help out at the Fountain Foodbank located at the Presbyterian Church in Fountain Street.”

Pat McGreevy, coordinator for the East Down Men’s Shed, said: “We are delighted to support the Fountain Foodbank. Our members enjoyed coming together to add value to up-cycled furniture to sell for the food bank and they all fully appreciate the difficult circumstances that their clients face.”
