The Department for Infrastructure has announced that a £200,000 improvement scheme at Cloughey Road, Portaferry is scheduled to commence on Monday 6 February 2017.
The resurfacing scheme, which is expected to be substantially completed by the end of February, will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on a two kilometre section of this important A Class Road between Portaferry and Cloughey.
To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, it will be necessary to operate temporary traffic signals and a road closure during the course of the improvements.
Local access will be maintained and all diversions and restrictions will be clearly signposted.
The planned dates for the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions and TransportNI will keep the public informed of any change.
TransportNI has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public however, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.

Ards and North Down Councillor Joe Boyle has welcomed the commencement of the drainage and resurfacing third and final section of the A2 Portaferry to Cloughey.
He said: ‘”This is something that I have been working closely with Transport NI over a period of time and now that the completion of the resurfacing Portaferry to Cloughey is taking place, involving some 2000m, during the next 6 weeks involving drainage and resurfacing it will be of great benefit to all road users.
“Once again, as someone who is keen to enhance the tourism product and reasons as to why tourists and visitors should visit the Ards Peninsula, I believe it is critically important that the infrastructure is of the desired and required standard similar to what is already in place and on offer whilst visiting throughout the length and breadth of the island of Ireland and we therefore have to be serious with our approach as challengers for this market.
“Portaferry is rapidly establishing itself again as the magnet for bringing tourists to the Ards Peninsula, with such attractions as the Portaferry Hotel, Exploris, the new ‘ Strangford ll ‘ Ferry along with the excellent catering establishments, pubs, entertainment, scenery, sailing activities and walks that the area has to offer.
“I have also spoken with management of Mount Stewart with reference to directing visitors to Portaferry and ‘ Exploris ‘ as well as throughout the Ards Peninsula – something I hope to progress upon.”
