Ulster Hospital Annual Lecture For 25 January

dn_screenThe Ulster Hospital Annual Lecture will take place on Wednesday 25 January 2017 at the Lecture Theatre, Trust Headquarters, Ulster Hospital at 6pm. Dame Mary Peters, former British athlete, Olympic Gold Medal winner and 1972 BBC sports personality of the year is the guest speaker. The Lecture will be followed by the presentation of the Ulster Hospital Gold Medal and the Colin Brennan Medal to this year’s recipients.

The Gold Medal is awarded each year to a final year medical student on the basis of a multiple choice written exam involving the four specialties: Medicine, Surgery, Child Health and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After attaining over 70% in the written paper there follows a clinical/oral examination in these four specialties.

The Colin Brennan Award is presented in memory of Dr Colin Brennan, who was a Consultant Physician in Ards Hospital for more than 20 years and who died about a year after his retirement in the early 1990s. The medal is awarded to an F1 annually on the basis of a short clinical examination medicine and surgery.
