Ritchie Calls For Halt On OEC Closures

South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has called for a halt of a review into potential closures of Ardnabannon, Killowen, Shannaghmore and Delamont Education Centres.

dn_screenMs Ritchie said: “These education facilities have been providing a unique learning experience for children of all ages, and from all backgrounds for a number of years.

“Staff in the facilities provide are committed to providing a memorable and valuable outdoor education experience for all children who attend.

“Any loss of facility or service would have a significant detrimental impact on the community, on the education sector, and on young people.

“I have made urgent representations to the Minister for Education and to the Chief Executive of the Education Authority requesting any review in to the future of these facilities, with the intention of closure, should be halted immediately and every effort should be made to ensure their retention.”
