Ritchie Tables Motion On Sellafield Security

dn_screenSouth Down MP Margaret Ritchie (SDLP) has tabled a Parliamentary motion demanding action be taken to resolve the safety failings at Sellafield.

She said: “I have tabled this motion to bring further attention to the unacceptable safety failings at Sellafield. I welcome the cross-party support the motion has received, and will be continuing to campaign for a fully independent inquiry into safety standards at Sellafield.

“Only an inquiry that is fully independent of both Government and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority can now rebuild public trust following the safety failings exposed by the internal whistle blower at Sellafield.

“The Government has a duty to protect the safety of those living in the area around Sellafield, as well as those living on the east coast of Ireland. Ministers must snap out of their complacency and act before irreversible harm is caused.”
