Shannon Condemns Assault On Lorry Driver At Balloo

Strangford MP Jim Shannon has condemned the unprovoked attack upon a lorry driver outside Balloo.

dn_screenThe lorry belonged to Willowbrook Foods and the lorry driver has been employed by them for many years.

Mr Shannon said: “I understand that a car overtook the lorry and pulled in front of it. Two men jumped out of the car and pulled the lorry driver from the cab. They proceeded to break his cheek bone, collar bone and then caused considerable damage to the lorry.

“This happened on Saturday 4 June at around 2am. It is important that anyone with any information or knowledge about the assault contacts the PSNI. The driver originally comes from Eastern Europe and has been in Northern Ireland for many years.

“The battery and assault was significant and the driver is lucky to be alive. The damage to the lorry means that it is now off the road. The PSNI are currently investigating and I want to reiterate the need for anyone with any information to contact the PSNI.”
