Valerie said: “Art is much my life. My husband John too is an artist and ceramicist too. I’m Head of Art at Ashfield Girls’ High School in East Belfast, also a member of the Belfast Print Workshop where I create my mono prints. It is mostly in the weekends over the winter. These works are on backgrounds with crushed paper scenes.

“It is really a new form I have been working with in producing unique art works which capture the marks on the rock, water an land formations. I have also created ink paintings in the same theme.

“I have taken part in a number of exhibitions but this is one of the few solo ones I have done. I have shown my work in the Island Gallery in Lisburn and in Wexford. xa0It is a real pleasure to show these in Downpatrick which has over the years been an excellent venue of artists to show off their works.

“The Belfast Print Works is a hot spot or all sorts of artists who work in screen printing, mono, etching etc an there are classes and instruction there too at different levels.

“The works on show in Downpatrick are of the Antrim Coast, Scotland and South Ireland.
