Volunteers of the Downpatrick Fountain Foodbank based at the Presbyterian Church in the town were pleased to accept a generous donation of food from Michael Kane ofxa0P&K McKaigue Ltd. The Foodbank is supported by all the churches in Downpatrick and other organisations.
Foodbank coordinator Shirley Lennon said: “The food will be put to good use in food parcels for local people who are struggling with a variety of circumstances that mean it is difficult to make ends meet. Unexpected bills, illness, unemployment, low incomes and homelessness can mean people struggle to feed their families and it is great that the local community is generous with donations like this. The foodbank distributes food across the Lecale area, including Ardglass where the building company is currently working.
P&K McKaigue Ltd is part of the Considerate Construction scheme which aims to improve the image of the building industry by ensuring that builders contribute to the communities in which they operate. The donation is an innovative way of supporting the community and is much appreciated by the volunteers.
P&K McKaigue Ltd xa0are working on a site on Strangford Road in Ardglass that is part of Fold Housing Association. It consists of land clearance and social housing. It will involve the construction of 18 units in total, including one-bed apartments, and two and three bed houses.
The project will take 52 weeks and when completed the houses will benefit from stunning sea views.
Gary Shields, HSEQ Manager, said: “Having discovered Fountain Foodbank via their website, the company saw a practical opportunity to help others. It is important to us that we contribute to the social and economic development of the areas in which we work.”
