Junior Racing
Club members Christopher and Sophie Neill competed in the Orwell Wheelers One Day Youth Races in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, County Dublin, on Saturday the 7th of May.
The young riders were kept very busy on the day as the racing started with a short Time Trial swiftly followed by a road race before lunch. The morning’s races were followed by a very competitive elimination race.
It was tough racing for all of the competitors on the purpose built race circuit in the morning given the wet conditions but thankfully the weather improved for the final stage elimination stage in the afternoon. A great days racing was had by Sophie and Christopher. Chapeau!
Mountain Biking
The Wheelers mountain bike contingent made the long drive up the A6 to Ballykelly Forest outside of Limavady for the 3rd round of the Ulster XC series.
With the windscreen wipers on full blast for the journey the riders were expecting an already technical course to be made all the more difficult. And they were not disappointed!
Mickey Clarke lined out in the S3 race and posted an excellent 11th place finish in what can only be described as challenging conditions. In the S4 race Jimmy McVeigh and Marcus Cromie put in a great shift to finish 7th and 15th respectively out of 36 competitors. In the junior races Shimna Wheelers had Maia McVeigh representing the club in the Under-10 race.
Well done to all from the club who made the long trip there with clean bikes and then came back again with bikes and gear clobbered in mud!
