The Under-8’s had their first blitz of the season on Saturday morning when they hosted Aughlisnafin, Carryduff and St Paul’s at Pairc Naomh Eoin.
With large numbers they split into 2 teams to ensure the squad got as much playing time as possible. Despite only having a couple of training sessions behind them, the performances were fantastic from the entire squad and they can now look forward to their next blitz in May. Thanks to the parents and family members for their support!
We hosted the U10’s on Saturday 23rd . The first blitz of the year/ season. The feedback from the travelling clubs was all positive, so well done to everyone who helped out on the day. There is always a team effort on the field, but the team effort behind the scenes on the morning was great. The more help the better.
The U10’s played Carryduff as well as the Finn on a glorious sunny but cold morning on the bottom pitch. We played Carryduff first. As it was the first match of the season it took a while to settle. St John’s had good numbers of players where as Carryduff had a small numbers on the morning, this meant a lot of changes of players during the match, but the most important thing was that everyone played.
The second match was against the Finn, this too was a very competitive game. Owen in goals was brilliant, both with his saves and his kick outs. Midfield Connor, Calum, and Aiden won a lot of ball who in turn passed unselfishly to the forward line, where Finn, who was playing against the Fin, goes to School in the Fin was unstoppable. This young lad took some, tremendous scores. These came from the team effort on the day.
Leaving the defence to the last is where all the praise should go on the day. Joshua along with Rory and in the second half Mark, and Nathan were blocking, tackling and feeding the ball to our midfield who in turn layed the ball off to the forwards who again were in form.
Well done to all our U10’s on the day, training on Tuesday night 6.30 to 7.30. Guys if you don’t have a gum shield you will not be allowed to train or play competitive football in our club.
U-12s
The Johnnies were at home on Sunday and were playing a fancied Carryduff side and would have been slight favourites going into the Game. St John’s won the toss and Adam decided to play with the stiff breeze. This worked in Our favour and two early goals worked by Aron and Conor and Points provided by our forwards and some excellent running by our defenders and midfield and accurate long range points had us going in at half time 3:05 to 0:02.
Carryduff put up a brave fightback in the second half but the Johnnies introduced fresh legs with Katie and Finn and made a few Key positional switches, then went on to win comfortably. This squad is showing how important teamwork and a big panel is Training continues as normal on Tuesday at 6:30pm.
The 16’s travelled to Carryduff last Thursday for their match. Carryduff started the stronger but once our lads settled they played really going in at half time 7 points up. We got to terms with their kickouts earlier on in the second and pushed hard playing as a team, and not as individuals. This resulted in some great scores as we dominated the second. Carryduff had a late flurry, with a few scores at the end. This match was a pleasure to watch. It would be great if we could get a bit more support to both our home and especially our away match’s. Well done lads. Final score was 10.9 to 4.6
Lotto numbers were 1, 4, 20 and 23. No jackpot winner. Bridie Rogers was a £10 winner. The jackpot is now £1,650.
