An entertaining and informative discussion on close quarter combat during the Easter Rising is expected, as part of an evening organised by the South Down 1916 Commemoration Committee in Rostrevor.
Derek Molyneux and Darren Kelly, two Dublin based military historians, will lead the discussion, following the release of their widely acclaimed book ‘When The Clock Struck in 1916’.
The discussion will include accounts of the raw experiences from both sides in the many battles that took place over the course of the rebellion.
While some have criticised 1916 Rising Centenary events as being sanitised, this will deal with the horror, trauma, elation and emotional desolation encountered by Irish and British combatants and civilians over the course of the Rising.
“Reads like a gripping novel – one of the standout books on the Rising”, was how the book was described in the Irish Times.
The event will take place on April 22nd in the INF Rostrevor starting at 8:30pm.
There will be an opportunity for the audience to make comments and ask questions. Copies of the book will be on sale and there will also be music and song provided by local musicians.
