The Collective currently represents the interests of six local community groups/associations and the aim of the meet and greet session was to inform potential new members how their respective groups would benefit from membership of a wider Collective.

Dan McEvoy chaired the event and explained: “The importance of good community representation on the recently formed Council District Electoral Area fora is not to be underestimated.

“The Collective, through partnership working have planned and delivered a variety of cross community events over the past four years within the greater Downpatrick area, including two annual major Downpatrick Town centre events – Culture Night (Sept) and the Downpatrick mini Halloween festival. These events were very successful and we plan to run more vents agin in the future.

“So the session tonight was really just an opportunity to throw out a line to any individuals or groups who wanted to provide some support to our major events programme. We have a strong experienced team of event workers and coordinators we really do want to make a difference to our County Town of Downpatrick and the wider area.”

The attendees at the meeting then enjoyed a tour of Down County Museum with curator Mike King and they visited the High Cross which is now protected in a dedicated exhibition facility.
