Durkan Announces £2.6million Environment Funding Boost

dn_screenEnvironment Minister Mark H Durkan has announced a £2.6million funding boost for eligible Not for Profit organisations and councils to support key environmental projects across Northern Ireland.

This Fund has been made available to eligible organisations to protect and improve our habitats; the quality of our air and water; promote health, well being, resource efficiency; sustainable economic development and access to the natural environment.

Announcing the award, Mark H Durkan said: “This £2.6million funding boost is good news for those organisations who seek to protect, enhance and conserve some of the finest aspects of our natural environment for generations to enjoy.

“This grant programme will help tackle the most acute environmental priorities facing us in the North. It will go directly to projects that protect and improve the environment that we and future generations live in.

“In a tough financial climate, I pledged that I would try and find funding to continue to support environmental groups and projects across the North in the future. I can confirm that with close management of my budget I can award £2.6million to 35 organisations to take forward 37 key projects as part of this Fund.”
