Independent Councillor Patrick Clarke Welcomes Refurbishment Works To Historic Castlewellan Market House

Independent Slieve Croob Councillor Patrick Clarke has warmly welcomed the commencement of refurbishment works to the 251 year old Market House which houses Castlewellan Library.

Works to refurbish the Castlewellan Library started today (Wednesday 17th February) and the library will remain closed for approximately the next three to four months while the major scheme is carried out.

Councillor Clarke said:xa0“I am very pleased after ongoing discussions and meetings with Libraries NI since June 2014 that refurbishment works have now finally commenced to repair the historic listed building.”

“The major scheme which is being carried out as part of the refurbishment of the Market House in Castlewellan is in the region of £200,000 and will address a number of problems with the roof, damp penetration in the walls.”

“The restoration works will be quite specialist to address the roofing and guttering problems as well as the water penetration and damp issues and possible wet rot infestation that has been affecting the Market House in Castlewellan for some considerable time.”

“Given the historic importance, architectural design and the location of the landmark Market House building which is a central focal point of Castlewellan I know the restoration works will be carried out and completed to the highest standard.”
