Six Down Pubs Feature In 2016 Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2016

Six pubs from County Down have secured listings in the 2016 Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide just published.

Balloo House (Killinchy) is a new entry this year whilst the other successful Down pubs who have retained their listings are the Pheasant (Annahilt), Poacher’s Pocket (Comber), Pier 36 (Donaghadee), Parson’s Nose and The Plough Inn (both in Hillsborough).

Billy Andy’s at Mounthill, near Larne brings to seven the total number of listings from Northern Ireland in this year’s Guide.

Of the twenty-five pubs in the Republic of Ireland, two are new listings – Old Spot (Ballsbridge) and Harte’s (Kildare).

In overall terms, County Down leads the way with six listings followed by Cork with five, Clare with four and Kildare with three. Dublin, Galway and Mayo each received two listings with Antrim, Kerry, Leitrim, Louth, Sligo, Tipperary, Wexford and Wicklow each having one listing.

Produced by leading tyre manufacturer Michelin – this year’s Guide recommends some 590 pubs spread across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland of which 60 are new entries and all of which are selected, first and foremost, for the quality of their food.

Noting that there continues to be a demand for good quality food in the relaxed setting of the local pub, Guide editor Rebecca Burr, who also edits the famed Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland, said: “More and more pubs are serving flexible all-day menus – incorporating breakfast, brunch and afternoon tea. The pub industry should be congratulated for moving with the times.”

The Michelin ‘Eating Out In Pubs’ Guide 2016 is now available in bookshops and online priced at £14.99.
