A new publication Opening our eyes to Hidden Harm: empowering frontline workers to support children and young people affected by parental problem alcohol and drug use has been developed by the North South Hidden Harm Group and is available to order from CRIS (Communication Resource and Information Service), Knockbracken Healthcare Park.
The aim of the publication is to increase awareness of practitioners to the impact of parental substance misuse, guide workers to what can be supportive, build resilience in these young people and sign post supports available.
Ed Sipler, (Health Development Specialist, South Eastern HSC Trust) who was involved in compiling the publication said, “The impact of living with a parent misusing alcohol or other drugs can be devastating. Frontline workers across youth work, education, early years, health visiting and social work can make a significant difference in the lives of these young people if they know how. I would encourage anyone who works with children or young people to read this publication”
