McKevitt Says Ireland Shines At Special Olympics

SDLP sports’ spokesperson Karen McKevitt MLA has commended on Team Ireland’s performance in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

dn_screenSo far Team Ireland’s athletes have secured 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. 2 of these medals have been won by Armagh swimmer Sarah Jane Johnson who will be bringing home bronze in both the 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke.

Ms McKevitt said: “Sarah Jane along with everyone representing Ireland in LA this summer are doing their country very proud.

“Their increasing medal tally is testament to the months of hard work, training and dedication on the part of the athletes and their coaching teams. They have shown the world that Irish sportsmen and women are up there with the best and can achieve greatness.

“With five days left of events there are medals still out there for Ireland and I send the sincerest support of myself and the people of Ireland to our team who have already proven themselves champions.”
