The seventh annual Saintfield Horse Show was launched in style on Thursday evening at the Rowallane Gardens in Saintfield kindly hosted by the National Trust.

Joan Cunningham, Show Director, welcomed all the guests and sponsors and thanked them for their continued support. Newry Mourne and Down District Council, who are the major Sponsors of the Show, were represented by Councillors Dermot Curran, Robert Burgess, Terry Andrews and William Walker.
Joan said: “This year’s show which takes place on Saturday 15 August at Tyrella House near Downpatrick, promises to be by far the biggest and best ever and has something for everyone.
“With over 80 classes to choose from. Working Hunters, classes for horses and ponies with the course designed by well-known course designer David McClurg. There are two showjumping arenas for horses and ponies featuring The Northern Ireland Affiliated Riding Club, and we have the Ladies Showjumping Championship, The Amateur Championship and in the pony arena there is a special class for Pony Club members only.
“The courses for the showjumping will be designed by international course designer Raymond Jess.

Three new perpetual challenge cups have been presented. Robin and Vi Patterson have presented a Perpetual Challenge cup for The Champion Hunter of The Show.
“The Lagan Construction Perpetual Challenge Cup has been presented for the Supreme Hunter Champion of the show and the North Down Marquee Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Champion Cob of The Show is also a popular proze many will be striving for.
“Leo Curry is going to be kept extremely busy with two rings in operation for the Ridden Ponies and in-hand showing. With the Lead rein, family pony etc. there will be in total 45 classes and there will be lots of classes for miniature horses and not forgetting the Novelty Dog Show commencing in ring 5 at 2.pm.
“Other Special Attractions at the show not to be missed include the Hilarious Delaney’s Musical Donkeys commencing at 2.45pm in the Hunter Ring 1 facing the North Down Marquee.
“The judging will take place in the champagne/wine bar at 2.15pm for the Best Dressed Lady at the Show.
