Welcoming the investment from B/E Aerospace, one of the area’s largest private sector employers, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Naomi Bailie, spoke of the positive economic impact which the festival will bring and said: “This is one of the biggest annual events within our ambitious and wide-ranging tourism strategy and we estimate that attendance this year could exceed 100,000 people. Clearly those visitors will make a significant positive impact on the local economy over the weekend of 7-9 August when the aerial excitement will be, quite literally, at its height, but our research also shows us that many will be inspired to return to enjoy the region’s other attractions.”

Cllr Bailie added: “The Council is delighted that its on-going investment in the tourism economy is enhanced by financial support from the private sector and we welcome on board our longstanding partner, B/E Aerospace.

“It seems a particularly appropriate association that our Festival of Flight should attract the support of a company which has a global reputation in the aviation sector, and has a major manufacturing plant located right here in Kilkeel. I commend B/E Aerospace for its commitment to the local community and for its willingness to help the region’s tourism sector to soar.”

Looking forward to a weekend packed with aviation-themed excitement, Martin McGinley, Managing Director and Vice President of B/E Aerospace (Kilkeel) said: “At our Kilkeel factory which is part of the global B/E Aerospace organisation, we manufacture around one third of the world’s airline seats and our passion for aviation is the very foundation of our commercial success. We are delighted to reflect that passion with continued support for the B/E Aerospace Festival of Flight and we look forward to being part of an amazing weekend, which will be enjoyed by the local community and visitors alike.

Amongst the appreciative audience with their eyes on the skies on August 8 will be many of our own employees and their families, together with some of our international customers, all enjoying an event which has earned recognition as one of Ireland’s biggest and most exciting air shows; a thrilling annual highlight of the region’s busy Summer events schedule.

“The B/E Aerospace Festival of Flight 2015 promises a powerful combination of stunning airborne spectacle, complemented by a lively ground level programme of family-friendly events and attractions, all played out against the iconic backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne sweeping down to the sea. It is undoubtedly a world class event, set in a world class location.

“Our congratulations go to Newry Mourne and Down District Council for the vision and commitment they have shown in developing this exciting initiative and, on behalf of all who will enjoy the occasion, our thanks go to the many agencies, organisations and aviation enthusiasts who give their time and expertise to deliver the adrenaline-packed programme.”
