Sinn Féin Calls For Traffic Calming Initiative In Bernagh Green And Mourne Green In Newcastle

Sinn Féin Mourne’s councillor Willie Clarke has called for motorists to reduce their speed when entering Bernagh Green and Mourne Green in Newcastle. He said this area is used as a short cut during periods of congestion by many motorists to access the Dundrum Road and vice versa onto the Castlewellan Road, Newcastle.

dn_screenCllr Clarke said:xa0″A number of concerns were raised with me by residents living in this area that cars are speeding through the estates on an on-going basis. A high number of children live in this area and parents believe it will only be a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed by a speeding cars coming through the estates.”

“This is an issue which must be resolved sooner rather than later. I will be raising this issue at the Newcastle interagency meeting which is scheduled for Thursday 2 July to discuss improvements that will ensure the safety of local residents.”
