Robert Burgess, Westminster UUP candidate for the Strangford constituency, said in a post-election statement said: “I would like to congratulate David Cameron on his successful re-election as Prime Minister. With a majority vote he can now continue the excellent work of getting Great Britain back on track.
“I would like to thank the Ulster Unionist Party for given me the opportunity to run in the Westminster Election and the people of Strangford who voted for me. I am delighted by the support I have had, although I was not successful on this occasion.
“The Ulster Unionist Party is very much in business, and our chance will come again.
“I would like to thank my election agent and all of the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to help me.
“Also, I would like to thank my family and friends for their unending support.
“And finally, may I add that the notion that the Ulster Unionist Party is in some kind of terminal decline has been proven to be wrong with the success of returning two Ulster Unionists to Westminster in Tom Elliott and Danny Kinahan and we look forward to further growth next year,” added Robert Burgess.
