On a wet and dreary spring evening, a keen group of riders from the Shimna Wheelers CC descended on the Lacken Road to put the pedals down hard and race the clock at the Try-a-TT event writes Mark Rafferty.

There was a mix of guest riders and Shimna Wheelers club members battling for the top step on the podium.

It was the Wheelers Stevie Cunningham who recorded the quickest time of the evening on the 10 mile course.

The TT was a great start for second placed Edward Shannon who had recently joined the club and completed his first event.

Without the support of club members it wouldn’t be possible to run these races. Thanks must go to Marty McVeigh for his expertise, Rodger who looked after race timing duties on the night and Denis Ward who done a great job with the safety signs along the route. Finally thanks to all those who supported the event as marshals.

The Mourne Cycles sponsored TT Club League starts on Friday the 10 April. The first TT is 2 laps of the 5 mile Maghera Circuit. Sign on is from 6.15pm sharp at the Maghera Inn with the first wheel down at 6.45pm. All riders must have a limited competition licence or a full race licence to compete in the TT league. There is a £1 charge per rider.

It is anticipated that the new club kit order should arrive just after the 9 April so it might be advisable to burn off some of those Easters eggs as soon as possible! On thexa0club socialxa0side there will be axa0Pizzaxa0Nightxa0on Saturday 18 Aprilxa0in Toscanos in Newcastle at 8pm.
