Police Arrests After Dundrum Assault

Detectives are appealing for information following an assault that occurred in the Church Avenue area of Dundrum in the early hours of Tuesday 31 March.

dn_screenAt approximately 3am, a 28-year old man was assaulted by a number of men in the area. He required hospital treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

After 11.30am, four men aged 47, 22, 20 and 19 were arrested in connection with the incident. Three of the men aged 47, 20 and 19 were later charged with aoabh, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. They are due to appear at Downpatrick Magistrates Court on Monday 27 April. The 22-year old man was released on bail pending further enquiries. A fifth man, aged 22, was arrested on the morning of Wednesday 1 April and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Detective Sergeant David Cameron said: “I would ask anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact CID at Downpatrick Police Station on the non emergency number 101.
