Twenty year old Shane Finan from Llanelli in Wales has been  been researching his family tree for the last four years and would like top follow up on local connections in Down District, especially in and around  Downpatrick.
Shane said: “I’ve been especially fascinated with my Irish ancestry because my surname is Irish and both of my parents are of Irish descent.
“My mother’s father, Verdon, was born in Ballybunion in Kerry but grew up in the London area. His mother was from Listowel but later moved to London in the 1930’s where she met my great-grandfather James Smyth who was from Downpatrick.
“James was born on the Ballynagross Road near Killough in 1913. I’d really like to get in touch with the Smyth’s with this connection or anyone who may know them to share information and get to know more about my ancestors.
“I’m planning on visiting County Down this year, so hopefully this could be a sort of family reunion for me. I know Smyth may be a common name but I’m sure someone out there may know someone or ask their grand-parents if they knew of them.”
