Down Arts Centre is delighted to welcome two very different return performances from two fantastic companies this weekend, with Celtic Soul: A Tribute to Van the Man and his Music at 8pm on Saturday 28 March and Dalloway, the new solo show by Dyad Productions, at 8pm on Sunday 29 March.

As one of the truly great singer/songwriters of all time, we can be proud that Van Morrison is ‘one of us’. The singer has shown a great affinity with County Down, having written the song ‘Deep in the Heart of Down’ and recorded ‘The Star of the County Down’, as well as playing several concerts in the county in recent years.
Celtic Soul, a 7-piece ensemble, will pay homage to the music of Van Morrison on Saturday 28 March with their sensitive and knowledgeable renditions of his classic hits and deeper album tracks. Receiving critical acclaim from devout Van fans wherever they perform, things really took off for the band after a live ‘unplugged’ performance on Gerry Kelly’s show on BBC Radio Ulster. BBC’s Ralph McLean, a massive Van Morrison fan himself, describes Celtic Soul as ‘a great band’ and ‘a very fine tribute’.

On Sunday 29 March at 8pm, Dyad Productions (Austen’s Women; I, Elizabeth; Female Gothic) will perform their entrancing new one-woman show, Dalloway, at Down Arts Centre.
1923: The War is over. While Clarissa Dalloway prepares a party in Westminster, Septimus Smith is diagnosed with shell-shock and their memories and dreams magically intertwine with those of 15 other disparate souls, this hot blue day in June. Conjuring the hopes and regrets of middle and upper-class London, this adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s celebrated map of hearts, minds and memories offers a compellingly feminine response to the aftermath of the First World War.
Dalloway garnered five-star reviews at Edinburgh 2014, with critics describing Rebecca Vaughan’s solo performance as ‘breathtaking’ (Fringebiscuit) and ‘simply sublime’ (Huffington Post). With a set and costumes that are evocative of Downtown Abbey’s lush post-war style and a career-defining performance by Vaughan, this is must-see theatre.
