A delegation of Sinn Féin representatives has met with BT to raise a series of broadband concerns.
Councillor Naomi Bailie led the delegation in a bid to improve services across the Down area. She said: “Rural dwellers right across Down are increasingly frustrated with the level of broadband service available to them.

“We have now met on several occasions with BT on this issue, but a number of areas have continued to receive a sub-standard provision.
“The new Newry Mourne and Down Council will shortly take on responsibility for the economic development of our area and it is on this basis that I requested this meeting.
“We hope to work alongside BT and other service providers to improve infrastructure in our area. We want to have maximum opportunities to encourage economic development and attract business and investment. In the age we live in, broadband is an essential tool in meeting that target.
“Sinn Féin in South Down has already successfully lobbied the Department for Trade and Industry for funding to improve reception in broadband black spots across South Down on that list for roll out.
“I would encourage local people experiencing broadband difficulties to get in touch with us. We will raise any issue brought to our attention in order to improve services for local home owners, and businesses with an increasing number developing business internationally,” she said.
