The deadline to enter this year’s Dermot Curran Young Achiever Awards is fast approaching.
Launched in 2004, the awards are designed to acknowledge and encourage outstanding young individuals who have contributed to the economic development of Down District. The aim is to enable them to further develop their business skills.

Denise is based in Castlewellan and she produces a range of wedding, celebration, and birthday cupcakes in many flavors and designs. Winning the 2014 Dermot Curran Young Achiever Award gave Denise’s small business a well-deserved boost.
Denise said: xa0″I’ve had a really busy year and 2015 looks better than ever. I have many more bookings this year for wedding cakes which I love designing. 2014 was a bit of a learning curve, and 2015 should be easier to plan allowing my business to grow so I am looking forward to the challenge.”
Councillor Dermot Curran has long been a supporter of encouraging the business achievements of Down District’s young people. He said: “We have a wealth of talent in our young people which must be developed. These awards are designed to help inspire and encourage more young people and steer them towards the support networks available.
“Down Business Centre has been appointed to run the awards this year and is accepting applications and nominations from, or on behalf of, young business people between the ages of 16 and 35 years. Shortlisted applicants and nominees will be invited to attend an awards ceremony to be held in March 2015.
