(Chris Parker reports from Deramore Park on 11 December 2014).

Hinch 2nd XV suffered their first league defeat in over a year when they went down to Harlequins 2nd XV at Deramore on Thursday evening.

Hinch started brightly and following a number of carries by the forwards the ball was spun wide where debutant Paddy Wright beat two defenders to go over for a score, the conversion narrowly missed but Hinch led 5-0.

Harlequins responded almost immediately with a penalty when Hinch where adjudged to have had their hands in a ruck. The home side took the lead late on in the half when their winger managed to intercept the ball and race in under the posts from the half way line. The score was 10-5 to the home side at the interval. In the second half Hinch had chances to take the lead but twice the ball was dropped when the line was at their mercy. The 2nd XV discipline didn’t help and this allowed Harlequins to push play back into the Hinch half and force them to attack from deep. On the last play of the game, the returning, Aaron Ferris made another clean break up the pitch but unfortunately his lack of support led to the ball being held up and Harlequins clearing their lines to secure a 10-5 victory. Hinch can have no complaints with the result, in poor conditions it was Harlequins who managed the game better with their scrum half Rainey dictating the contest and leading his side to victory.

Final Score: Harlequins 10 Ballynahinch 5 This weekend the 2nd XV face another difficult encounter in the league when they travel to Queen’s were they will look to get back to winning ways.
