SDLP Condemn Reindeer Damage In Newcastle

South Down SDLP MLA Seán Rogers has spoken out following the vandalism at the roundabout on Friday night at the junction of the Dundrum and Castlewellan Roads.

dn_screenMr Rogers said:: “I wish to put on record my anger at the bare-faced vandalism of the novelty reindeers at Newcastle’s roundabout over the weekend. These reindeers were the perfect entrance feature at the roundabout and the local children loved them. To have one stolen and the other defaced is appalling.”

Cllr Laura Devlin added: “The local Chamber have put so much effort into the festivities leading up to Christmas. The Reindeers were a lovely feature for shoppers and locals. I wish to condemn the act of vandalism and actually advise people to contact the Police.

“Whoever did this may think it is simply a laugh but they are actually committing an offence as well as this being an attack on the local Community. Newcastle is such a beautiful town and has so much to offer by way of cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs and we don’t want those responsible to take away from the great spirit in the town.”
