Hazzard Welcomes Bikes Being Allowed on Certain Bus Routes

South Down MLA Chris Hazzard (Sinn Féin) has welcomed news that Translink may allow bikes to be carried on buses on certain routes.

dn_screenItxa0has emerged that one of the routes under consideration is that of the Mourne Rambler Service.

Commenting on the news, Mr Hazzard said: “I urge Translink to progress this proposal which will make access to public transport much easier for many who live on the more remote rural byways that do not benefit from a bus service.

“Folding bikes are already permitted on all Translink bus services and the news in relation to conventional bikes now has emerged during Ministers’ Question time in Stormont.

“It is understood that officials from DRD are in discussion with Translink on the matter.

“During Minister’s questions, the DRD Minister Danny Kennedy specifically cited the Mourne Rambler and told the Assembly that opportunities to facilitate the carrying of conventional bicycles is being explored.

“It is hoped to commence the service during the summer of 2015,” the MLA said.
