At the most recent meeting of Castlewellan and Kilcoo SDLP, members were updated on the new arrangements for providing constituency support.
Councillor  Laura Devlin advised that staff will no longer operate from the Castlewellan Office but the same services will remain available from Newcastle. She said: “Our support services will now operate from the Newcastle Office on Railway Street in Newcastle and are available to deal with constituency issues Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm with the exception of a Wednesday when the office opens in the afternoon only. Evening appointments are scheduled by prior arrangement.
“Those who cannot come to the office should contact us to make arrangements for outreach support. We will also be available at surgeries around the locality in the near future and will advertise as they happen. There is an enormous demand for this kind of support in our area and the SDLP have an excellent record of representing people in our community on issues that matter to them. We continue to remain dedicated to providing this support to the people of this area.” Members welcomed the benefit the new walking trail at Bunker’s Hill has already had on the area. Chairman John Duggan said: “This is yet another great facility for our town and a fantastic attraction for local people and visitors alike. Well done to former councillor Eamonn O Neill for bringing this option to the Council some time ago. It is important to enhance our local area so that local people have the benefit of the facility and that visitors come to the town and support local businesses while they are here.
“I was also sorry to hear that there had been some vandalism recently which has now been put right and would encourage people to respect this facility so we all can get enjoyment out of it.” Mr Duggan also congratulated Castlewellan Regeneration Committee on the completion of the recent painting scheme. He said: “Well done to the Regeneration Committee for organising practical help for local business. This was a great scheme which offered business owners funding to upgrade building and signage and you can see how well it have spruced up the businesses and benefitted the look of the town.”
