On Saturday morning Ardtole was the venue for the Annual U-8xa0tournamentxa0sponsored by the Ardglass and Portaferry Post Office and Super Shops. After several group games, teams progressed to the Cup and Shield Semi Finals writes Linda Crangle. xa0Ardglass faced Saul in the Shield semi-final andxa0agonisingly lost by a point after extra time. Saul progressed to the Shield Final where they faced Auglishnafin, and after a strong second half performance The Fin won out.
In The Cup semi-finals Patrick Sarsfields overcame Bredagh by the narrowest of margins, while in the other semi-final Teconnaught easily over came St Paul’s. The final was a tensexa0affair with the Belfast side again winning by a point. Both trophies were presented by Meabh Curran representing the tournament sponsors.
On Sundayxa0the U-10’s travelled to the Bear Pitt home of Patrick Sarsfield’s GAC. They faced tough opposition from Derry and Antrim, losing to Saulghtneil and St Galls, drawing with Davitt’s, while beating St Paul’s and Glenavy. They progressed to the semi-final of the Shield were they overcame Tir Na Og Randlestown. They once again faced Glenavy, however, they narrowily lost by two points in an enthralling game of football. A great day had by all players, mentors and parents: the squad xa0- Eoin McMullan, Jack O’Shea, Gavin O’Shea, Dara O’Shea, James Crangle, James McConkey, Declan Crangle, Flinn Morgan, Michael Curran, Ryan Cusack.
The U-12’s were away to Liatroim onxa0Wednesday 3rd September 6.45pm and away again to Carryduffxa0on Sundayxa0morning atxa011am.
