Visit The Viking Adventure Day At Down County Museum

 The Vikings are coming! A Viking adventure day will he held at Down County Museum.

 Taking participants from Down County Museum to the site of the grave of Magnus Barelegs. The event on Sunday 17 August promises lots of excitement culminating in the chance to take part in a Viking battle.

The event will highlight the Viking heritage of the local area and enable visitors to discover more about the achievements of the Vikings in Ireland.

Starting at 2pm, re-enactors from local Viking groups will be at the Museum to train participants in Viking battle techniques. This is your chance to handle a wide range of replica weapons and have a go at practising sword fighting skills and how to use a shield to defend yourself against other warriors. Whatever your age this is your chance to become a Viking for a day.

The action will then move off to the Railway Museum where you will visit the grave of Magnus Barelegs and travel back in time on the Downpatrick and County Down Railway steam train.

Magnus Barelegs was a Norwegian king who was killed in a battle with Irish warriors in Downpatrick in 1103. Parts of the battle will be re-enacted here and visitors will get the chance to take part in this.

This event has been specially designed for families and promises to be an educational but fun day out.

The Viking adventure day begins at 2pm and finishes at 5pm. Admission is £7 for adults, £4.50 for children and family tickets (2 adults and 2 children) are available for £20. Concessions are £5.
