The Portaferry Blue Peter 5 Atlantic 85 class RIB in action rescued four people when a yacht struck rocks.[/caption]
Portaferry RNLI received a request to launch their inshore lifeboat at 10.40am today (Tuesday 22 July) to the aid of a man and woman with two children on board a stranded yacht.
The lifeboat launched at 10.47pm and arrived at the scene just south of Dogtail Point, Strangford Lough, at 10.54am.
The 13-metre yacht had run onto rocks where it remained stranded with the two adults and two children onboard until the help arrived.
The weather at the time was very foggy with poor visibility, a force two southerly breeze and calm seas.
When the volunteer crew from the Portaferry RNLI arrived, they were assisted by a local boat, the Cuan Rib, who had also gone to the aid of the people on board the stranded yacht, in pulling the yacht and the four people on board clear of the rocks.
The volunteer RNLI crew then inspected the yacht for damage at the scene before escorting the vessel and its crew safely back to Portaferry Marina.
