Following a successful dancing career in the West end, Fiona Scott Trotter returned to Northern Ireland to pursue her career as a Jazz singer. It wasn’t long until she made a great impression on the Jazz circuit with her father, musician John Trotter by her side.
Fiona’s individual style has been recognised by numerous Jazz and Blues festivals, as she captivates audiences with her charismatic stage presence, vocal sensitivity and sassy scat singing. Influenced greatly by the American Song Book, the singer decided to dedicate an evening to “The First Lady of Song“, Ella Fitzgerald. An Evening with Ella promises to be a night of spellbinding music and song for all the family.
Joining Fiona on stage will be some of Ireland’s best and most respected Jazz musicians – John Trotter, Rebecca Montgomery and Linley Hamilton.
John Trotter is a multi-instrumentalist whose musical experience includes Jazz Klezmer music and playing both Irish and Scottish music in the proper idiom. This year John is celebrating 60 years in the music industry, having started playing at 12 years old. John will be leading the band on piano.
Belfast-born drummer Rebecca Montgomery developed her love of jazz whilst at school and made her first public appearance on the jazz scene in 2005 with the Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Pursuing a career as a jazz drummer, Rebecca was mentored by a number of respected musicians. Since then, she has gone on to play at Cork, Derry and Limavady Jazz Festivals and she continues to perform regularly, sharing her unique style and development as a player with audiences across the province.
Trumpeter Linley Hamiton has been part of the Irish music scene for over twenty years, juggling a career as a musician with that of a BBC Jazz Broadcaster, and an educator with Making Music Workshop.
Some of Linley’s career highlights include performances or recordings with Paul Brady, Van Morrison, Foy Vance, Eleanor McEvoy, Jacqui Dankworth, ASIWYFA, Oppenheimer and Gareth Dunlop, amongst others. Linley is currently celebrating success with his own recent album, Taylor Made which is available from Lyte Records.
