Down County Museum is developing a temporary exhibition to mark the anniversary of the beginning of World War I. The exhibition, entitled, ‘The People’s Story: Commemorating World War I in County Down’, will focus on local people’s experiences of the war, both at home and on the Front, and the Museum is currently appealing for objects and stories for inclusion in the exhibition.
Although the Museum is keen to hear from anyone who has an interesting family story or objects relating to World War I, the Museum is particularly interested in stories concerning women, local mill or factory workers who produced supplies for the war, underage recruits and soldiers’ experiences at local training camps such as Ballykinler. The Museum is especially keen to hear from people who have photographs or objects such as letters, uniforms and mementoes which can accompany their stories in the exhibition.
