Alliance Welcomes Roads Service Commitment To Castlewellan Traffic Calming

dn_screenCouncillor Patrick Clarke had contacted Roads Service Traffic Management Section and the PSNI following constituent complaints regarding speeding traffic on both the Dublin and Bann Road.

“The Dublin Road is the main route from Castlewellan to Rathfriland along with the adjoining A50 Bann Road which has now been both assessed for suitable additional traffic calming measures such as improved road markings / gateway features / new speed limit signage to help raise driver awareness of the speed limits on both approaches into Castlewellan,” said Cllr Clarke.

“Roads Service have advised me that a potential scheme remains highly placed within Roads Service traffic calming programme for the Down Council Area and hopefully a scheme can be progressed during this financial year, subject to securing the necessary finances.

“I have also been advised that Roads Service plan to extend the speed limit on the Bann Road to beyond the local Castlewellan GAC club playing fields and local council recycling centre. The required lengthy legislative process to allow this has commenced and Roads Service hope to include this change within their planned scheme.

“Roads Service have also confirmed that the PSNI are monitoring both the Dublin and Bann Road regarding speeding at these locations.

“Roads Service also indicated that a damaged fence at the mini roundabout at the Dublin u200eRoad will also be repaired following my representations.”
