Down Arts Centre and Write!Down are delighted to announce that Geraldine O’Kane and Colin Dardis will take the ‘featured reader’ spot at Poems on a Sunday Afternoon, at 2.30pm on Sunday 27 April.
Poems on a Sunday Afternoon is a popular quarterly event that invites budding writers, readers and signers to celebrate the written word in all its forms.xa0 Offering a friendly space to read, those gathered are encouraged to share a piece of their own work, or perhaps a favourite poem. xa0xa0
Geraldine O’Kane is originally from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. She has been writing poetry since her teens, and has had numerous poems published in magazines, anthologies and online e-zines.
Geraldine is a regular and diverse reader at many local events, including Belfast Film Festival, Sunflower Fest, Fermanagh Live and the Belfast Book Festival.xa0 In 2013, Geraldine was the winner of the North West heat of the All Ireland Poetry Slam, and one of the Ulster representatives in the slam final in Galway. Her poetry is mostly inspired by observation, and the state of the human condition. She specialises in micropoetry, a first collection of which is forthcoming from Pen Points Press.
Colin Dardis is a poet, editor and arts facilitator based in Belfast. His work has been published in numerous anthologies, journals and zines throughout Ireland, the UK and the USA. Colin runs Poetry NI, in which he is the editor of FourXFour, an online journal focusing on poetry from Northern Ireland. Pen Points Press, a poetry micro-press founded by Colin, will be launching soon. Colin is also the host of Purely Poetry, an open mic poetry night in the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, which runs the Belfast heat of the All Ireland Poetry Slam.
