Work on the resurfacing of a 650metre stretch of the road from the GAA pitch in Dundrum towards Clough is expected to be finished by the end of May.

The initial scheme preparation work will be carried out using traffic control, however, the final stages of the scheme will require closures for a number of days during mid to late May to allow resurfacing to be carried out. Roads Service will publicise the date of any full closures during the course of the scheme.

Danny Kennedy said:xa0“This £155,000 scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure in the Newcastle area.

“Once work is complete, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new road surface along the stretch.”

Roads Service has planned the improvements to keep disruptions to a minimum, however, delays are expected and drivers are advised to allow additional time when planning journeys in the area.

Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed today’s announcement from the Roads Minister regarding both a £155,000 road improvements scheme on the A2 Dundrum Road from Dundrum GAC football pitch towards Clough and also a £270,000 road improvements on the A24 Newcastle Road in Seaforde which involves the provision of a right turn lane at the Newcastle Road/Loughinisland Road junction and the resurfacing of a 1.4kilometres stretch of the A24 Newcastle Road.

Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke welcoming the news said:xa0“I warmly welcome the two major road upgrade and improvement schemes of both the A2 Dundrum Road in Dundrum and the A24 Newcastle Road in Seaforde which represents a total investment of £425,000 on the local roads infrastructure in both Dundrum and Seaforde.”
