A LOCK OF FIERCE ROARS, written and directed by John McManus, is a Moth Production touring nationwide from February to April 2014 and is coming to the RGU clubrooms in Downpatrick on Saturday 12xa0April.
Starring Blaise Reid, Emer O’Carroll, Paddy Dean and Niall Bruton, it is set in rural Ireland in 2001. The play centres on a couple who have been trying to groom an elderly neighbour into leaving them his fortune, which is hidden under the floorboards. He’s no fool, however, and things come to a head when he is faced with declaring his on account of the Euro changeover. Throw in a bungled robbery, the shenanigans of the sympathetic youngster Davy and McManus’s unique brand of mischief and you’ve got an outrageous comedy!
Moth Productions is an independent professional touring theatre company based in Ireland. They started touring in 2011, andxa0 play to packed houses across the countryxa0in village halls, hotels, GAA clubs and theatres. More than 40,000 people have seen their productions to date.
John McManus is from Ballyconnell in Co. Cavan. His first play was No Hate Going To Loss, a radio drama which won the RTE P. J. O’Connor Award in 2005. A Lock of Fierce Roars represents his second collaboration with Moth Productions after a 55 performance tour of The Quare Landxa0 in 2013. John has recently completed the New Playwrights Programme at the Abbey Theatre.
