Sinn Féin Councillor Sinéad Ennis has said women must have equal opportunities and access to their chosen career paths.
Commenting on the issue, Cllr Ennis said:xa0“Unfortunately despite all the laws to stop discrimination against women in the workplace, women still face many barriers in their chosen career paths due toxa0gender inequalities.
“Community-based organisations have played a positive role in supporting and encouraging women to participate in training with the potential to lead to employment in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
“Women must not be put off certain careers or jobs because they are seen as traditionally male.xa0They must have equal opportunities and access to whatever career they choose and we all have a role in ensuring that there are no jobs women and girls can’t do if they want to.”
She continued:xa0“It is important that womenxa0support and encourage other women by being positive role modelsxa0by inspiring others to believe in themselves and follow their dreams.
“All of us have a responsibility to challenge discrimination and gender inequality no matter where it comes from.”
