The Ballynahinch V’s travelled to Omagh knowing a win was a must in order to keep the hopes of winning the league alive.
Ballynahinch has the best of the opening exchanges but could not get over the try line.xa0 On ten minutes a drive off an Omagh lineout on the Hinch 5m line saw them drive over for a try.xa0 The conversion was missed.xa0 5 – 0 to Omagh.
Hinch had the better of the possession but it wasn’t until 25 minutes that a jinky run by scrum half Jonny Orr led to a try.xa0 Orr passed out to wing Pete McKee who cut back inside, offloaded back to Orr.xa0 Orr brought down just short of the line managing to pass out to second row Tim McKee who had drifted out to the wing.xa0 McKee went over for the try.xa0 The conversion was missed.
On 35 minutes another catch and drive say Omagh go over for another try.xa0 Hinch struggling to control the Omagh men’s driving maul.xa0 The conversion was good.
Hinch managed their own catch and drive with David Prentice showing great strength to go over for a try. The conversion was missed.xa0 Omagh managed a penalty before the half to make it 15 – 10 to Omagh at half time.
The second half stated quickly and on 45 minutes Richard McKelvey made a break from inside his own half.xa0 McKelvey striding 30 meters before beating an Omagh defender with a pass to Tim McKee.xa0 Mckee passed out to Stuart Hodges who drew his defender and passed out to wind Pete McKee.xa0 McKee cut inside to beat the last defender to go over the try line and again the conversion was missed.
On 60 minutes Omagh were awarded a penalty for Hinch straying off side.xa0 The penalty was good, 18 – 15 to Omagh.
Hinch continued to push into the Omagh half but were not clinical enough.xa0 On 70 minutes one of Hinch’s most influential players, Fraser Bowsie had to go off with a blow to the head.xa0 The extra man told and Omagh managed a try in the last minute to seal the win 23 -15.
A very disappointing result which was evident in the changing rooms as the 5’s knew they had the beating of Omagh.xa0 However, there is always next week and a trip to Limavady beckons.
