Detectives are investigating the report of a robbery at a house in the Glassdrumman Road area of Annalong on Wednesday 15 January.
The report was received at aroundxa011.45amxa0this morning that two men had called to the door of a house and forced their way inside when the door was opened by the female occupant.
The men, who were described as wearing ski masks, gloves and hi-viz vests held the woman down, assaulted her and then stole a sum of cash in denominations of £20 notes.
Reports that the men may have left the scene in a white vehicle are being investigated. The woman was taken to hospital to be treated for shock and non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area and who may have noticed any suspicious activity to contact them in CID at Newry on 0845 600 8000. Sinn Féin councillor in Mourne, Sean Doran has condemned those responsible for carrying out a robbery at a home on the Glasdrumman Road area of Annalong on Wednesday morning.
Councillor Doran said people in the area were shocked at the incident:
He added: “I have talked to a number of residents who have expressed surprise at this incident occurring in such a quiet and peaceful part of the Mournes. My thoughts are with the woman and her family affected by this heinous crime.
“I want to call on the public in the Mournes to practice vigilance in the aftermath of this robbery. Ensure at all times that strangers who call to the door provide I.D before the door is opened and to keep on the lookout for any suspicious activity in the vicinity.”
“It is believed that the men responsible for this crime escaped in a white vehicle. I would urge anyone with any information regarding this incident or who may have been responsible to report it to the PSNI or Crimestoppers as soon as possible so that these criminals can be apprehended.”
