NI FINANCE Minister Simon Hamilton MLA travelled to Copenhagen today to meet key officials to progress his reform agenda.xa0
The visit involves a series of meetings, including meeting Niels Godtfredson, Director of the Agency for the Modernisation of Public Administration, Kit Lykketoft, Deputy Director of Mind Lab, (which is a cross governmental body set up to identify innovative solutions to public service delivery) and Lars Frelle –Petersen, Director with the Agency for Digitisation.

Finance Minister Simon Hamilton MLA.[/caption]Commenting after his meetings, Simon Hamilton said: “One of my top priorities as Finance Minister is to build a more innovative, efficient and effective public sector throughout Northern Ireland.xa0
“I have come to Denmark to examine best practice and explore how the Danish Agency for Public Administration Modernisation identifies and evaluates its innovation and efficiency measures. I wish to determine what key reforms have worked and what have not. I want to fully maximise this sharing of knowledge and best practice and use it to the best advantage for everyone in Northern Ireland.xa0
“My visit to the Agency for Digitisation also helped to shed light on how to introduce cutting edge improvement into the delivery of public services. I embrace this smarter approach and will act to transform government for the better.”xa0
Impressed by what he experienced at Mind Lab,xa0the Minister said:xa0“I am very interested in how best to encourage forward thinking and modernise the work we do. The Mind Lab concept is an excellent approach we can learn from and its methods could be advantageous to Northern Ireland. I am keen to apply its techniques in particular how best to involve people in creating new solutions to long standing problems in society.”xa0
Both visits have confirmed for the Minister that public sector services in Northern Ireland would benefit from similar practices from whatxa0he witnessed in Denmark.xa0
The Minister added:xa0“My vision is to introduce, enable and facilitate much greater levels of dynamic thinking into the public sector in Northern Ireland. Innovations will come from the rest of the UK and internationally but others will be generated by staff and the general public.”
