NEWCASTLE area Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has again urged Roads Service to resolve recurrent flooding at the industrial site on the Dundrum Road, xa0Newcastle.

Cllr Clarke said:xa0“Following representation from my offices, drainage works were recently carried out at this location and these works have improved the drainage situation.

“However, following recent heavy rainfall flooding it has been brought to my attention by business owners, that flooding xa0continues to be a problem at this location.

“I acknowledge drainage of the entire area is difficult due to the low lying nature of the road.xa0It is the intention of Roads Service to carry out a level survey in order to ascertain whether it will be possible the existing drainage system can be extended.”

“Business is effected by the flooding which is xa0causing so much annoyance to xa0customers they’d rather avoid the flooding and go elsewhere. In today’s economic downturn, this is not acceptable.

“Roads Service need to resolve this unremitting flooding problem, I will continue to lobby Roads Service to install the infrastructure improvement that is required xa0to resolve the problem.”
